The Big Brothers Community program pairs volunteers with Littles based on personality and personal interests to build a supportive one-to-one relationship based on trust, connection, and fun!
Matches spend two to four hours per week doing free or low-cost activities they enjoy most out in the community. Our matches are paired for a minimum of one year.
Our Big Brothers are
- Male, trans, and gender diverse individuals who are 18+.
- Reliable, consistent, able to express care and expand possibilities.
Our Little Brothers are
- Boys, trans, and gender-diverse children and youth ages 7 to 14-years-old.
- A young person who could benefit from an additional positive role model in their lives.
The In-School Mentoring program pairs a volunteer with one elementary school student who share common interests with each other.
Matches spend one-hour per week, between 10am and 3pm, together on school grounds doing non-academic activities such as playing sports, games, creating art or just hanging out at the playground. Our matches are paired for the duration of the academic school-year.
Our Big Buddies are
- Adults aged 18+, inclusive of male, female, trans, and gender diverse individuals.
- Mentors who Little Buddies can talk to, learn from, and share experiences with.
Our Little Buddies are
- Students grade 1 to 7 nominated by teachers, staff or by themselves.
- Children who could use a bit of extra 1-on-1 attention, need to build confidence, or may have trouble connecting with peers.
The Mentoring With Math program is designed to strengthen the impact of tutoring by adding in the element of mentorship.
Mentors meet with Littles once-a-week to work on numeracy, complete activities and play games. No previous experience with math is necessary and all training is provided.
Our Mentoring With Math Sessions run once a season for 8 to 10 weeks:
- Summer: between July and August
- Autumn: between October and December
- Winter: between January and March
- Spring: between April and June
Our volunteers recommend enrolling in two consecutive terms as the best way to experience this fun program.
In-person programs are offered at Surrey Libraries (Strawberry Hill) on Tuesdays between 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM and virtual programs run Monday to Wednesday between 4:00 PM and 5:00PM.
