(for adult volunteers of all genders)
You’ll be matched one-to-one with a Child who attends a nearby elementary school. Spend one hour a week with your Little Buddy during school hours on school grounds – play games or sports, do arts and crafts, or just hang out.
Studies show that mentoring helps children stay in school, avoid risky behavior such as bullying, and grow up having more respect for family, peers, and community. Helping children reach their full potential can lead to positive community outcomes like a reduction in poverty and unemployment, safer schools and neighbourhoods, and a new generation of civic-minded adults.
The In-School Mentoring program provides children with a role model and a friend to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with, within school grounds. Play games, hang out on the playground, throw a football or start a creative project. Build a strong friendship through fun activities and supplies provided by Big Brothers such as games, crafts, and sporting equipment. Spending one-to-one time with a child who just needs a friend can help increase the child’s confidence, help them make healthier life choices and even inspire them to do better in school.
The In-School Mentoring program requires a weekly visit of 1 hour for the duration of the school year. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during other school holidays.
Activities you and your Little Buddy can do together include:
- Reading
- Sports
- Arts & Crafts
- Talking
- Baking
- Hanging out on the playground
