(for male-identifying/gender-fluid/non-binary adult volunteers)
As a Big Brother, you’ll be matched with a “Little Brother” in your area who would benefit from a positive male influence. With this volunteer opportunity, you’ll spend 2 – 4 hours with your “Little” once a week – hike, bike, or just hang out. There’s never been a better time to get involved.
March 2021 Update:
We want to extend our appreciation for your interest in volunteering in our programs.
At this time applications submitted to the Community Program (or Big Brother program) from those in the city of Vancouver specifically will be placed on hold. However we still have a massive need for Big Brother volunteers in all other cities, see below for more information.
The Game On! Program will be on hold indefinitely at this time as we’re unable to offer as many sessions as we did prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our staff will contact all applicants by phone to discuss the next steps and to explore other volunteer opportunities within Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver.
Community Program (or Big Brother program) applicants based in Vancouver are encouraged to consider their ability to travel to one of the following areas for the full term of a match (minimum 1 year) to support a child or youth in need of mentorship: Coquitlam, Delta, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond, Surrey, or West Vancouver. Many children are waiting upwards of 2-3 years for a mentor in some of those locations.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
Thank you for your support and patience!
What we do today makes a difference tomorrow. 2+ hours each week volunteer opportunity is all it takes to become a Big Brother. Become a kid again by doing a variety of fun activities and games with a Little Brother, aged 7 – 14.
The Big Brothers Mentoring program provides boys with a role model and a friend to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a friendship is developed between the Big and Little Brother, that is built on trust, and common interests and values. Furthermore, the result is a impactful experience for both the mentor and the mentee. Most importantly, you don’t need to be a superhero or have a wealth of experience with kids to get involved – consistency and dedication are two of the most important qualities we look for in our volunteers.
All it takes is 2-4 hours each week and a minimum one-year commitment to the program. Develop new skills, try out new activities and be a role model. Some of the activities Big and Little Brothers like do to are:
- Arts and crafts
- Mini golf
- Listening to music
“It’s amazing how easy it can be to volunteer when doing something you enjoy.”
