What You Can Bring to our Donation Bins


At Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver, we can't thank our amazing donors enough! Your generous and thoughtful donations make a huge impact in our local community! We kindly ask that you please follow a few etiquette guidelines when donating to our clothing bins. Please note that some items cannot be accepted. We appreciate your respect for the items you are giving, as well as those who will be receiving them.

General Rules:

  • Do not leave anything outside of the bins
  • Pack donations in smaller bags for easier deposit into the bin
  • Please tie up bags to protect donations
  • Do not put any breakable items into the clothing bin
  • The donation of items that may create a safety hazard are prohibited.
    • (Including but not limited to paint, garbage, soiled rags, propane tanks, or similar items)
  • Please only donate books and textbooks in our designated book bins

Accepted Donations

Cloth Items

  • Clothing for men, women, and children
  • Accessories (belts, hats, scarves, mitts)
  • Purses, backpacks, bags, and wallets
  • Shoes and boots
  • Towels and tablecloths
  • Undergarments, nylons, and socks
  • Blankets, bedding, and pillows
  • Curtains and linens

Small Household Items

  • Housewares (dishes, cutlery, cookware)
  • Toys, books, games, and video games
  • Videos, records, CDs, and DVDs
  • Tools (garden and otherwise)
  • Small electrical appliances
  • Phones, tablets, laptops
  • Décor Items (frames, candle holders)
  • Books

Not Acceptable Donations

  • Any furniture
  • Boats or Cars (motorized or otherwise)
  • Baby equipment, mirrors
  • Car parts
  • Carpet, area rugs, window blinds
  • Building materials or paints
  • Console TVs, computer monitors, stereos, and full-size pianos
  • BBQs and lawnmowers
  • Large Appliances (stove, washer, etc.)
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Encyclopedias & magazines
