COBS Bread is partnering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters once again to help promote volunteerism and to raise money for local Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across Canada. This year’s national fundraising campaign will be held in May and will feature a special ‘Little Sister/Little Brother Approved’ banana chocolate scone.
Along with a Big and Little Sister match , Big Brother Jason Boudreau and Little Brother Thorun have been chosen to appear in the COBS Bread campaign across Canada and in the media.
North Vancouver resident and Financial Planner Jason Boudreau takes a break from his busy life each week to spend time with his Little Brother of one and a half years. Jason became a Big Brother because he wanted to get involved in his community by volunteering. A colleague of his was a Big Brother and encouraged him to apply. Jason understands the importance of having an adult male role model in a boy’s life and he knew that he could be a positive influence.
It took no time for them to get to know each other. They try to be as active as possible whenever they spend time together. Jason taught Thorun how to golf so they have been spending lots of time on the driving range. The pair has gone to a few hockey games and they both really enjoy shopping trips together. When asked if Thorun would be nervous at the COBS Bread photoshoot, Jason replied, “he might be a little bit nervous at first, but then he will ease into it and be fine. He is a very outgoing boy.”
Over the year and half, Thorun has grown up a lot. He has always been very outgoing and receptive to trying new things, explains Jason. “Thorun is very intelligent. Even though he is only 12 years old, you can have an adult conversation with him.”
Jason has some advice for anyone considering becoming a Big Brother. “The few hours a week you give up out of your busy schedule is a small sacrifice. If you are thinking about becoming a Big Brother, I would encourage you to do it. It’s a way to form life long friendship with somebody and make a difference. It is personally fulfilling as well.”
